 Appeal United States Court of April 29 has been canceled the ban on public financial support for research activities related to the study of human embryonic stem cells. Earlier, in 2010, the District Court of Columbia had declared illegal the allocation of taxpayers' money on this kind of research.

The plaintiffs in the case against public funding of experiments on stem cells   were the developers of alternative technologies for the study of cells, supported by religious organizations.

The current law, signed by the President of the United States in 2009, allows scientists receiving public funding, to conduct stem cell research embryos unclaimed after the procedure of artificial insemination and to be destroyed. The opposing side of this research is based on the law of 1996, which prohibits the use of public funding for research involving the destruction of human embryos.

In Russia, the debate continues about the new draft law "On biomedical cell technologies" . The law prohibits the use of the tissue of the human embryo to obtain stem cells.


According to the Deputy Head Health Ministry Russia Veronika Skvortsova, a new law allows the use of stem cells from the organ, accompanying the fruit: the umbilical cord and fetal membranes. The law regulates the pre-clinical and clinical studies, expertise, treatment of cellular technologies, etc. The new document will allow wide use of cellular technology in droves, protecting the interests of donors and recipients.

The project federal law was heavily criticized by scientists and physicians. The text of the bill was posted on the website of the Ministry in December last year, but the controversy and debate still continues to this day. Adoption of the new document is expected before September 1, 2011.
