Children who regularly breathe tobacco smoke have a much higher risk of getting
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
When they grow up. Obstructive pulmonary disease is a concept that includes several diseases, including
chronic bronchitis and emphysema
y. In the case of progression, may develop
shortness of breath
and many other unpleasant
symptoms
.
A study on passive smoking among children attended 320 completely healthy people and 430 patients with obstructive pulmonary disease. Adult women, who as a child constantly exposed to secondhand smoke are twice as likely to develop these diseases, the risk for men is slightly smaller, but still the numbers are alarming - they are at risk with a probability of 50-70% higher. Thus, doctors warn that second-hand smoke as a child brings a lot more harm than passive smoking in adulthood.
Anet Johannessen, the author of the test, said that the results suggest that parents are able to significantly reduce the risk of developing lung diseases in adulthood, to protect from tobacco smoke in your child's childhood, especially very early.
